What is a Certified Remodeler?

MCR | CR/CRA | CLC | CKBR | GCP

The NARI Certification program is designed to establish professional standards for the remodeling industry and to improve the products and services to customers. Certification provides special recognition to those contractors who, by fulfilling prescribed requirements of performance and conduct, have demonstrated a high level of competency and ethical standards in the remodeling industry.

MCR

Master Certified Remodelers (MCR) – To become a Master Certified Remodeler, individuals must be a Certified Remodeler (CR) for a minimum of 10 consecutive years and hold another NARI certification (CKBR, GCP, CLC, UDCR). Candidates must have been involved with their local NARI chapter (committee, committee chair, board member, or officer) or NARI National (committee member, committee Chair, board member or officer) and/or involvement as a leader in the local community (city council member, school board, church officer, etc.) Candidates must submit a letter of recommendation from their chapter executive or chapter president or three letters of recommendation from recent clients.Certification Renewal: Certifications are renewed annually. Renewals currently require the attainment of 10 hours of continuing education, participation in chapter/community service projects and the submission of the required material.

CR/CRA

Those receiving the CR / CRA status are required to complete and pass an extensive written examination. In addition, the participants' past records of training, education, experience and accomplishments are documented and evaluated by the national NARI Certification Board. The Certified Remodeler (CR) or Certified Remodeler Associate (CRA) is awarded to those individuals who have served the home improvement industry for a minimum of five years, upheld the standards of the NARI Code of Ethics, and have demonstrated competence in the basic areas of remodeling.

There are two certification designations available:

"CR" (Certified Remodeler) - is for general construction work, both residential and/or commercial.

"CRA" (Certified Remodeler Associate) - is for all other specialty trades.

CLC
Designed exclusively for lead carpenters who are skilled and knowledgeable in the technical, hands on aspects of their work, and who have demonstrated skill and knowledge in project management, supervision, and customer service.

CKBR
Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler is for individuals that specialize in kitchen and bath remodels. These Remodelers show an ongoing dedication to continuous education, complete and pass a comprehensive qualification matrix, and pass a 400 questions exam.
